Prelude....

So here's the deal. Thirty-seven years ago I drove across the country (East to West) to take a new job in the promised land, California. I can say that I have had absolutely no regrets about the whole process, having met Susan, had an astonishing career and raised a wonderful son.

Last year, I had some trouble with the my ticker, so I retired and had the issue repaired. So the last six months have been dedicated to recovery and thinking about what is next. During all that thinking time, I realized that my career was very intense and I had never driven more than 500 miles from home on vacation (never had the time). Susan had criss-crossed the country a number of times with her parents when she was younger and had fond memories of those trips. We need to attend a wedding in the UP of Michigan in August, so we have decided to drive from SoCal to the UP, then over to the East Coast to visit my family and back across the southern US to home. Google maps indicates that the trip is going to cover approximately 7000 miles. We are both wondering if we will still be married at the conclusion, but we are now committed.

I've decided to chronicle the trip on this blog. I don't know if anyone will be interested in reading about it, but I will try to make it interesting. It is my plan to give travel details about the driving process, places we stay, places we eat, gas mileage, fuel costs, maintenance problems, chance encounters, interesting people and what we see along the way. I hope you find something in this blog that interests you.
